A Victorian Country Album: The Photographs of Joseph Gale

Few photography books sit as comfortably on a shelf as this one. A Victorian Country Album gathers the work of Joseph Gale, a Victorian photographer whose rural pictures record everyday life in the English countryside of his time. Brian Coe, a historian of early photography who wrote widely on cameras and their makers, brings the pictures together with the context needed to read them. For anyone collecting or researching the early history of the camera, this is a useful companion to the period's images.
