Nikon Nikkor AI 200mm F4

The Nikkor 200mm f/4 AI is one of the quiet bargains of the Nikon manual-focus catalogue. A 200mm prime gets you compression and reach no kit zoom approaches, and this one does it at 530g — light enough to hand-hold all afternoon, which a modern 200mm emphatically is not. It is sharp across the frame wide open at f/4, sharpest around f/5.6, with no visible distortion and only minor lateral chromatic aberration. The built-in telescoping hood means one less thing to carry or lose.
