Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W570

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W570 is the more ambitious of Sony's 2011 CCD ultracompacts: 16.2 megapixels, a 5x Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar zoom starting at a genuinely wide 25mm, optical stabilisation, 720p video, and HDMI out — all in a body weighing 116 grams. The wide end is what sets it apart; 25mm is wide enough for interiors and group shots that most compacts of the era simply could not frame.

Included

• Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W570 body
• Battery
• Charger
• Pouch

The mode slider is stiff and wants a deliberate push rather than a nudge. It changes modes correctly every time once you know that, and it is characteristic of the whole W-series rather than particular to this body. Battery and charger are included; an SD card is not. The 25mm Zeiss wide end and 16 megapixels make this the most capable CCD compact in this batch.
