Canon AE-1 + Canon NFD 50mm F1.4

The Canon AE-1 sold over five million copies and taught a generation what an SLR was — the first camera built around a microprocessor, with shutter-priority automation simple enough that Canon could advertise it on television. What makes this particular kit worth attention is the lens. The New FD 50mm f/1.4 is not the f/1.8 these cameras usually come with; it is seven elements in six groups with an eight-blade diaphragm, and Canon's own museum calls it "the standard lens of standard lenses". Two-thirds of a stop faster than the f/1.8, noticeably better wide open, and the lens that turns an AE-1 from a first camera into a serious one.

Condition

• Cosmetic: Near mint with very minimal signs of age and use. The lens is super clean - free of fungus, haze or scratches. Has very minor coating loss marks with no impact on image quality. There is some tiny fungus inside the viewfinder; viewing is not affected indoors or outdoors.
• Functional: Fully working. Shutter accurate across the range, shutter-priority automation responding correctly, meter working, lens focus and aperture smooth.

Two things stated plainly. The lens carries very minor coating loss marks, which do not show in images. And there is a small amount of fungus inside the viewfinder — in the finder optics, not the lens and not the film path, so it does not touch your negatives, and viewing is unaffected in practice both indoors and out. Neither is hidden in the photos. Set against that you have a near mint AE-1 body and the fast f/1.4 standard lens rather than the common f/1.8, fully working, with cap and strap.
