Canon Canonet QL17

Canon's Canonet line made fast, pocketable rangefinders accessible to everyday film shooters, and the Canon Canonet QL17 is one of the more capable examples. Its "QL" name refers to Canon's Quick Loading system, which makes threading a fresh roll quicker than on most cameras of its era. The fixed f/1.7 lens was the selling point, giving usable light for indoor and dusk shooting from a body that fits in a coat pocket. This copy is offered with its original case and strap.

Specifications

• 35mm film, fixed f/1.7 lens with a coupled rangefinder for focusing
• Quick Loading (QL) film system for faster threading
• Leaf shutter running from 1/4 to 1/500 second, plus B
• Shutter-priority automatic exposure with full manual control
• Match-needle CdS light meter coupled to the shutter and aperture
• Film speed range ISO 25 to 800 on the meter dial
• Built-in parallax correction in the rangefinder viewfinder
• Hot shoe and PC sync for accessory flash
• Body weighs about 620 g

Condition

• Cosmetic: Excellent condition with minimal signs of use. Faint dust is present inside the viewfinder; it does not affect viewing.
• Functional: Fully functional. Shutter fires at all speeds. Light meter and semi-auto (shutter-priority) mode are working. The meter runs on a 1.35V PX625 mercury cell, which is no longer manufactured; a zinc-air PX625-equivalent cell is the workable replacement, since an alkaline cell reads incorrectly. No battery is included.
