Kodak UltraMax 400 (35mm)

The workhorse. Kodak UltraMax 400 is the film that lives in the bottom of camera bags and gets shot without thinking, which is exactly the compliment it deserves. One stop faster than Gold, it turns a bright-daylight-only camera into something you can use indoors, at dusk, at a wedding, at a party — and it holds together beautifully across all of it. Colour is warm and saturated in the way only Kodak consumer film manages, with reds and skin tones that flatter rather than shout. Grain is present but never intrusive, and the exposure latitude is famously generous: overexpose it two stops and it barely blinks.
